Luis Herrera was born in Cali, Colombia in 1987. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee at Martin, in 2010. He got his Ph.D. degree in 2015. His current research includes hardware in the loop (HIL) simulations for power systems.
In May 2015, he joined the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) advanced power group.
